About Art Therapy "Art 4 Life"

Why I chose the name "Art 4 Life"?

I believe Art in general can open a human mind in every kind of way. Makes you see the world in a total different vision. Art also has the power to help "cure", heal any kind of psycological wounds. I personally have experienced patients in severe depression, after surviving of trying to end their lives, be cures through Art therapy groups and sessions. I could stay all day here trying to explain why I believe in Art for promoting a better quality of live in human beings. Here are a few explanation about "Art Therapy"...

Seeing, speaking and feeling through Art

Art Therapy is a self-discovery process that can be life enhancing. The purpose of Art Therapy is much the same as in any other psycho therapeutic modality: to improve or maintain mental health and emotional well-being. Art Therapy generally utilizes drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, and other forms of visual art expression to reveal hidden layers of an individual’s issues. The witnessing of the individual's creative expression, within the safe, non-threatening therapeutic space, coupled with the powerful imagery gives a place for his or her historical and emotional content to be realized.

Art Therapist’s recognize pre-verbal and non-verbal communication, including actions, symbols and metaphors. Art is a language which might be difficult to express in words or in other forms of therapy. By helping clients to discover underlying thoughts, feelings and meaning that are being communicated in the artwork, the intention is that clients will not only gain personal insight, but perhaps develop a better understanding of the way that they relate to others.

Art can benefit all individuals with a variety of issues or even help considered "normal" people to have a better quality of life..

Art does something more than fill dingy spaces devoid of character; it offers mastery, discipline, structure, healthy relationships, as well as positive and creative ways for people – young and old alike – to express locked in emotions and frustrations, the very same emotions and frustrations that often lead to offenses.
By making art accessible and giving youth the opportunities to meet and be mentored by people who create a variety of art, we will help our youth feel they can build and create anything. Why? Because the arts have the power to teach us.
  1. The arts teach youth alternative views and solutions to their dilemmas.
  2. The arts teach youth that small differences can have large effects.
  3. The arts instill an innate ability to think and solve problems creatively and flexibly.
  4. The arts teach teamwork and an appreciation for others strengths and talents
  5. The arts teach us how to play and thus, are about expressing joy.

  6. The arts teach communication: how to say that which cannot be said with words or numbers.

  7. The arts teach youth that questions and problems can have more than one answer or solution.

  8. The arts teach youth diverse perspectives - there are many ways to see and interpret the world.

  9. The arts teach youth to make good judgments about qualitative relationships: in the arts, it is judgment rather than rules that prevail.

  10. The arts teach youth the complex forms of problem solving: opportunity, circumstance and solutions change.

  11. The arts teach that qualitative evaluations can be as valid as quantitative evaluations

  12. The arts teach youth to think and work though how ideas and concepts become realities.

  13. The arts give youth experiences they get no place else - and through these experiences they discover their range of capability and achievement.
